Adding to the discussion on his prose—I was discussing this with another writer. It’s not JUST purple prose. The way sentences are structured… the reader gets to uncover and notice the environment along with the narrator. It’s a subtle but significant difference between more modern scene-setting!

This is such a great breakdown! I think mountains of madness is my favorite. I’m currently working through his complete unabridged works

Very interesting! Lots of things I didn't know in here: Derleth imposing his own ideas onto the source material, and the origin of his writing style. My first Lovecraft story was The Shadow Over Innsmouth which I really liked, but having started reading in publication order I would say that publication order is a good way to get into his work, or to start with Dagon in terms of Mythos stories.

Just saved this for later but this is right up my street! I mentioned Lovecraft in my post today when I was talking about Algernon Blackwood. I'll comment again once I've read 👍🏼

I just read your post about Gaslamp horror! I adore all the writers you’ve mentioned in that post. I do plan on covering Lovecraft’s influences in Part III of my introductory post to his fiction (of which Algernon Blackwood and Edgar Allan Poe are most definitely mentioned). Thank you for your support!

This is going to be a great primer for introducing new fans to the Mythos! Knowing how passionate you are about HPL's work but conscious of the difficulties getting into it, I couldn't think of anyone better to give a "walkthrough" on how to get into the stories!

Thank you so much, Ethan! Though it might take a bit of time, I am absolutely looking forward to sharing Part II (the juicy stuff—lol) with you all. Stay tuned!
